Program Overview

Amba is based in the way nature moves. We use the five elements, cycles of the moon, and rhythms of nature as our internal compass. The Amba practice includes fluid movement, feminine yoga, dance, breath work, sound, partner work, and deep nourishment earth meditation.

Biliana Iontchev began her yoga journey in 2004 at Columbia College Chicago, where she obtained her B.A. in Dance Teaching & Choreography. She’s coached Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) throughout the United States and raised Olympians like Laura Zeng. Since, Billie has been meshing the worlds of yoga, dance, and RG, inspiring and growing hundreds of healthy athletes, performers, shakers, and movers in Los Angeles.
She challenges her fellow yogis to tap into limitless flexibility with a wholesome, authentic practice and a self-caring, graceful routine.
Her Anusara-Vinyasa inspired guidance fuels the fusion of meditation and high performance, where everyone feels free to be as graceful or as disciplined as we are willing to be. “Strengthen the heart, stretch the mind-body, breathe, laugh or at least leave with a smile.”

Heart Medicine is a singing duo comprised of Annmarie Soul and Karen Seva – blending original songs, mantras and native tribal chants. Together their voices blend in harmonic frequencies creating angelic overtones inviting the listener into a deep musical meditation journey.

The music of Heart Medicine is a combination of sacred songs and melodies inspired by nature and spirit, interwoven with healing mantras celebrating many traditions. Both celestial and earthly, each song is a gift from the muse of spirit, channeled and lovingly crafted – opening a doorway to the unseen, requesting our presence in a dance with the divine, inviting us into love, and calling our hearts home.

About the instructor:

Meghan Mahealani Morris is the founder of Amba Movement. A yoga and movement teacher since 2001, Meghan has always found movement to be a direct pathway home. After over a decade of teaching and practicing yoga in traditional styles which stem from a male lineage, Meghan discovered a more feminine path of awakening, through movement.

Originally from Hawaii, Meghan feels a strong connection with the spirit of the islands and the healing energy of sacred lands and waters. It is through reconnecting with wildlands – both outside in natural settings and inside her own body and breath – that Meghan began to rediscover her connection with the sacred and wild feminine. Meghan went through a decade-long healing journey, through which she learned to nurture and listen to her body and heart.

Meghan created Amba Movement out of her desire to live in a world with more empowered, earth-connected women who cherish themselves, love their bodies, and deeply enjoy their lives.

Based in Topanga Canyon, Meghan leads moon gatherings, women’s embodiment circles, retreats, and Amba Teacher Trainings.

Dissolve into Sound

Dissolve Into Sound returns to Yoga Desa for an evening of sound vibration, relaxation and cleansing rejuvenation.  Sound is an ancient healing art with its roots dating back to the Egyptians and Confucians, who claimed that sound could ‘tune the soul” and affect our cosmological and social worlds.  ‘Dissolve Into Sound’ brings back this art form.

We enter into our practice through a grounding meditation, setting intention and some gentle movement to prepare the mind and body to receive the sounds.  Using Planetary Gongs, Tibetan bowls, crystal bowls, and other musical instruments, a soundscape is created, layering sound frequencies and moments of silence.

This sound experience coupled with intention creates a powerful vehicle of transmutation.  Calcified energy patterns are cleared.  A meditative state is triggered, suspending the chatter of the mind.  A state of deep relaxation is induced, activating the body’s innate healing capacities, and sound vibrations strengthen and stimulate the nervous and immune system.  Sound immersion promotes mental clarity, physical rejuvenation bringing the body and mind into harmony.

The Yoga Desa class invokes night time textures and grooves. Kate Shela and Tim Booth invite you into a dark and bright moving crucible of evolution where we will conscientiously explore the circulation of physical, mental and emotional matter and turn that into creative material. Dedicated and novice dancers blend and find their place in the hum of the dance, in the strum of boundary, in the thrum of discovery. The 5Rhythms are a philosophy, a moving meditation and a dynamic practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness and awareness into action. Some weeks Kate may teach alone, other weeks, Tim may teach alone, sometimes we will teach together. We each bring other flavors to the banquet. Our styles are different but complementary.

 

Your Teachers

 

Kate Shela is a dynamic shapeshifter and shamanic healer who naturally brings transformational medicine to every dance floor. With 21 years in her field, She is known for her enormous passion and a vulnerable sense of the intimate. Kate has worked with teens to elders, sees individual clients and is invited to teach all over the world to extraordinary ordinary humans.

 

Tim Booth is a teacher with over 25 years experience. He is trained in Voice Dialogue Therapy and The Meisner Technique. He is also the singer/ songwriter/ dancer in the band James who have been going strong for 34 years having sold over 25 million albums worldwide.

 

Kate and Tim have been together 22 years. They combine a lifetime of creativity, humor and hardcore vulnerability.

Due to high amounts of people being turned away at this class, pre-booking is now available. Booking is not required but it is highly recommended.

Important Helpful Tips for Newcomers:

Please understand this is a practice – we recommend at least 4 classes before you will have an inkling of the scope of the map. We have “practiced” this work for 25 years and are still in the landscape of discovery. Each class is uniquely different, some days we may fly blissfully into trance states on others we may wade through the molasses of our human condition. The practice – is to embody all of it.

  • Doors close 20mins after start of each class to create a safe held container.
  • Pre-Payment through Eventbrite or cash and check only at Yoga Desa.
  • No children under 13 in the classroom or to be left unattended out in the street.
  • Newcomers are always welcome.
  • Please enter the space in silence.
  • No phones, shazam, or recording devices. Please turn off all notifications and ringers.
  • Please wear loose comfortable clothes and layers are recommended.
  • Please wear a soft shoe or barefoot – no socks on the dance floor.
  • Please bring a bottle of water.
  • Please refrain from wearing heavy perfumes or jewelry.
  • No gum
  • This is a drug and alcohol-free space
  • Each person is responsible for their own well-being and body during the entire class. Pace yourself.
  • Please follow the instructions of the teachers as you might do with a yoga teacher.
  • If you are new to this class it is natural to feel nervous. When we ask you to take partner please do and know that we are here to develop boundary skills as much as freedom skills. Take your own authority as to what feels appropriate with each partner.
  • This is a deep, transformational class. On leaving, please be sure to have fully returned to your body before driving.
